How to Find an On-Campus Job
Student Employment Services maintains job openings for part-time jobs on-campus through Handshake. All UC Merced students receive student login credentials and a university email address which grants them access to Handshake.
When signing into Handshake, student applicants can use filters to customize their job search. Select “On-Campus” to narrow down the search (which also includes opportunities for Federal Work-Study positions).
Open on-campus undergraduate positions are posted on UC Merced's Handshake website.
All students applying for jobs will need to submit a resume and any other documents as indicated on the posting. The Center for Career & Professional Development offers support services for students seeking to build a resume and cover letter. For more information, please visit the Student Career Center website.
Differences between Student Employment Services and the Student Career Center resources: Student Employment Services vs Student Career Services
Departments and offices on-campus hire student employees on a regular basis. As positions become available, they will be posted to UC Merced's Handshake website.
Prepare Handshake Profile
All Handshake users have a profile which is used by employers to quickly find qualified applicants and ensure that a candidate is a good match for their job opportunity. Complete as many of the profile fields as possible and keep them up to date, including relevant coursework, any special training, seminars taken, or experience.
- My Documents- Allows students to upload documents such as resume and cover letter: Create/update your profile and upload a resume, cover letter and other commonly requested items (course schedule, transcripts).
- Ensure selected resume, cover letter and other commonly requested documents are marked visible within your Handshake profile. Note: While you can upload multiple documents, employers can only see and download them if "Visible" is checked. Additionally, only one resume can be featured on your profile at any time.
